Ja: What have the Joint Select Committee of Parliament in Jamaica got against freedom and the Bill of Rights?

Government Senator Trevor Munroe yesterday accused the Joint Select Committee of Parliament considering amendments to the Jamaican Constitution, of foot-dragging.

"It is 10 years, and much thought has gone into this (the charter) since 1994 by this committee, by eminent jurists and others... let us not forget the fundamental rights and freedoms of our people," said Munroe.
...
Among the protected rights and freedoms are those ensuring:

. life, liberty and the security of the person;

. freedom of thought, conscience, belief and observance of religious and political doctrines;

. freedom of expression;

. the right to seek, distribute or disseminate to any other person, information, opinions and ideas through any media;

. freedom of peaceful assembly and association;

. freedom of movement;

. equality before the law;

. equitable and humane treatment by any public authority in the exercise of any function; and a raft of provisions for protections against discrimination, protection of property, child and legal rights and entitlements.
