PR: Wanting to have the cake while eating it

Federal grants given to University of Puerto Rico (UPR) students will not be at risk if the institution decides to eliminate the ROTC program from it’s campuses, antimilitary groups said Monday.

Science Faculty professor Jorge Colon said a 1999 amendment guarantees that student aid will not be affected by any administrative decision.

“Pell grants are not at risk,” Colon said during a press conference at the Bar Association where he was joined by attorney Noel Colon Martinez and professor Jose Paraliticci.

He acknowledged however that research funds could be affected if the ROTC is ousted from all UPR campuses.

The group was reacting to former UPR President Jose M Saldaña’s statements regarding a possible loss of $240 million in federal funds if the UPR ends the ROTC.
After screwing over the Navy's training at Vieques, these antimilitary activists are going after the ROTC on college campuses in Puerto Rico. Why should federal funds, which habitually come with strings, go to universities that will not allow either the ROTC or military recruiting on campus? If these jokers want to live in a fantasy world which has no need for a standing and well-trained military, that's up to them. The rest of us know that the world is a dangerous place, the U.S. is at war, and will be for a long time, and we need more and willing people to join the military. Why is it so hard to give instead of take? It's high time the feds played hard ball with these anti-military people.
