Caribbean Chemicals Guyana Limited has been forced to close its East Berbice retail outlet due to the rampant smuggling of chemicals in the area.

The business which is headquartered at Lot 45 Croal Street, Georgetown published the closure notice in this newspaper yesterday, stating among other things that it has become unprofitable to operate the outlet in the area.

The company also noted that the smuggled chemicals do not contribute to the 10% government tax and as such it was making their costs significantly higher.

I wonder what kind of chemicals are being smuggled, and for what purpose?
