Ja: They know book, but they don't know chapter

There is a certain arrogance on the part of our students who get the opportunity to go on, mostly at taxpayers' expense, to tertiary education.

It is particularly obvious among those who enroll at the University of the West Indies (UWI), and especially so right now.
...
Our view is that more of the resources should be steered to repairing the foundation of the education system, without which there cannot be a viable tertiary system. Maybe students should be required to pay up to 50 per cent of the cost of their education at public universities. They are already paying all at the private ones.

Rather than arrogantly demanding that others take up their responsibility, the UWI students should be creatively thinking of ways to pay their way, including for their education.
Well, UWI is a merit-based system, so students enrolled know they have the brains to be there. I the minds of some, a university education means that the man enrolled is better than the man who isn't; therefore, the enrolled man has the right to exhibit a certain amount of arrogance. That is expected. So, how is the graduate supposed to look down on his lessers if he doesn't begin practising on his betters whilst at UWI?
