TT: Drugs in the diplomatic pouch

Police have uncovered what they suspect is a drug smuggling ring in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Three employees were recalled from foreign postings after packets of cocaine, weighing two kilogrammes, were found in a diplomatic pouch sent to the T&T Consulate in New York days ago.

Sources said three people — posted in London, Canada and New York — were brought back home and are now being questioned by officers attached to Organised Crime and Narcotics Unit.

A statement from Whitehall's Communications Unit last night said Government would make a statement in the Senate on the matter today.
