TT: The old lie
Jihad has nothing to do with violence, Fazal Mohammed, vice-chairman of ASJA, said yesterday.At least he spared us the bigger lie that Islam is an ideology of peace. Seems nobody told the terrorists that jihad is just about "doing the right thing."
He was commenting on a call for jihad, which translates to “holy war,” made at the funeral of Ashmead Baksh on Monday.
Mohammed said he hadn’t heard the actual call, since he had not been at the funeral.
“I wasn’t well, so I had only gone to the (Baksh) house the night before, but I understand there was some sort of call for jihad,” he said.
“The word jihad doesn’t mean physical violence as people might think,” Mohammed said.
“It means doing the right thing and people try to get you to do this by word of mouth and appealing to your heart and mind.
“When people try to use it to kill and say they go to heaven for jihad, that certainly isn’t what jihad is all about.
“No religion would uphold that type of thing.”
So, why are they doing the wrong thing -- beheading people, and generally committing mayhem and murder?
Maybe the Koran teaches that doing the wrong thing is the "right thing."

I really felt ..& FEEL sorry for the victims & their families of 911. I'm a muslim fom Trinidad . Religious fundamentalism hurts everyone . In every religion there are those who twist the verses of their holy books to suit their interests. Religion, like education ,often tends to reinforce basic character traits , making some people better and others worse . Let me also say that the greatest threat to world peace today is american foreign policy . Check out most of the Latin American and Mid eastern dictators (incl. sadddam) and see who put them in power, who stood by and let them kill their people . The economics of the 21st century must be based on a different set of priorities and i pray that the American people will remove this lunkhead and elect Kerry ....and send bush back into the bush where he belongs .
