Manning wants "Most Favored Nation" status for T&T
"If the priest could play, who is we?"
That is what Trinis must be asking with regard to T&T being accorded Most Favored Nation trading status with the U.S. If China, with its human rights record, can be a MFN, then why not T&T, which has been a reliable friend to the U. S.?
Here are the opening paragraphs from the article:
"Prime Minister Patrick Manning wants Trinidad and Tobago to enjoy 'Most-favoured Nation Status' for its petroleum, iron and steel exports to the United States. The Prime Minister raised this issue in talks with Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Commerce, Samuel Bodman, during his five-day visit to the United States last month.
"The Commerce Department Deputy Secretary noted that last year, 68 per cent of the US's Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) was imported from Trinidad and Tobago. Prime Minister Manning told Bodman, and other Commerce Department officials that Trinidad and Tobago was well positioned to guarantee the supply of energy to the United States of America as Atlantic LNG's Train 4 will soon be on stream."
