Hti: UN's Egeland says Haiti's plight fault of international community
Haiti was allowed to slip into a "silent humanitarian emergency'" by the international community, the top United Nations official for emergency relief said today as a multinational security force increased in the country.
Jan Egeland, the under secretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator, said governments came up with only 45 percent of the $83 million sought in April for food and other supplies to assist Haiti.
