Atg: Education a top priority

Education has been allotted $78,690,853, one of the largest slices of the budget pie.

While delivering the budget speech in Parliament last Wednesday, the Minister of Finance Dr. Errol Cort said education would receive 13.96 per cent of this year's recurrent expenditure.

"My government is committed to raising the literacy rates and to promoting civic pride and energising the socio-cultural awareness of our people. In this regard, we intend to reform the Ministry of Education to allow for the more effective management of our school system," he said.
As long as the system is reformed so that non-performing teachers can be got rid of, and merit pay goes to the deserving.
