Bhms: Rising gun crime

Too many unlicensed guns are in the country and the authorities are worried. And they should be, along with every visitor, law-abiding citizen and resident as well.

Almost every day someone in this capital island is held up at gun point and robbed. It doesn't matter whether it is day or night, or who it is. The robbers accost people on the streets, they enter private dwelling homes, supermarkets, banks, restaurants and wherever they believe there are some dollars to be had.

They rape and kill, too.

But what is to be done? It doesn't seem to be getting any better and there is no abatement in the criminal activities that are wrought by people with these illegal firearms and the worth of the flowery speeches made by the people in control don't amount to more than the paper on which they are written.

The police are concerned too that to protect themselves and their businesses, otherwise "good people" are also buying illegal weapons.
Does the Bahamas have a death penalty? The problem isn't the guns, unlicensed or not, but the criminals who use the guns.
