St. Kts: Promise them anything
The number of excuses proffered for not acting on the above promises that are included in Labour’s manifestos of 1995 and 2000 is now exhausted. It is clear that neither the Integrity Legislation nor Electoral Reform is on the priority list.
The only conclusion one can reach is that these two items will not favour the Labour Party’s bid for a third term in office.
No one forced the Labour Party to include Integrity Legislation in their Manifesto of 1995. No one forced them to read it once in 1996 in National Assembly. Since then the legislation has obviously been put into the “DISCARD” bin as the assets of Government ministers began to swell at disproportionate rates.
When the Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement chose to declare his assets and liabilities, the damage control agents of the Labour Party sought to distract attention from their Manifesto promise by attacking and trying to ridicule him and his action – an action that they themselves had formerly advocated. At no time did they try to explain why they had reneged on their promise… nor did they say when they would disclose their now ample assets.
