St. Lca: Home-grown attorneys don't want to be magistrates?

The matter of appointing magistrates is being handled by the OECS Judicial and Legal Services Commission. It has been several months since the Ministry of Justice announced that it was on the hunt for new magistrates and will be looking within and outside the country's borders. Minister for Justice and Attorney General Sen. Petrus Compton says the process is taking sometime because the Judicial and Legal Services Commission is approaching the task in a deliberate and dedicated manner to ensure the right persons are hired.

St. Lucian Attorneys are not known to be interested in openings in the Magistracy. Mostly foreigners have shown interest and have been filling the ranks in past years, but Sen. Compton says this is changing as a number of local attorneys have applied for available positions. Sen Compton says, though the decision is totally that of the Legal Services Commission, the country could see a number of locals being appointed.
