Atg: Caricom spinning top in mud

The Caribbean Community (Caricom) has aborted efforts to lobby the UN to investigate the circumstances surrounding the sudden exit from office by Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

Instead, Heads will be taking the matter to the Organisation of American States (OAS), Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer reported to the media yesterday.

Mr. Spencer was speaking at the conclusion of the 17th Meeting of the Bureau of the Conference of Heads of Government of Caricom.

He explained that Caricom was encountering "difficulties in pursuing the matter through the United Nations as initially contemplated."
