St. Kts: Wasn't me, we didn't do it, I dunno know

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - In a televised statement aired on ZIZ Radio and Television, Chairman of the St. Kitts/Nevis Labour Party Dr. Timothy Harris responded to accusations brought against his party by the People's Action Movement (PAM).

The People's Action Movement issued a statement following a 3 May incident, stating that acts of intimidation and violence are being perpetrated against the party.

A release issued on 3 May, by PAM stated that Roy Flemming candidate for the People's Action Movement in Central Basseterre was mounting billboards in his constituency with a team of volunteers when a "prominent labour party activist approached Mr. Flemming and his team brandishing a gun at them and demanding they remove the billboard.

"He then grabbed hold of the ladder with two of the volunteers on it, shock it violently. He mounted the ladder, pushed the gun in the back of the neck of one of the volunteers causing him to jump from the ladder," the release stated.

The PAM release also stated that Flemming called the a police officer on duty at the Government Headquarters who then called for "back up" following which the activist was arrested and his gun confiscated.

In light of these accusations the Chairman of the Labour Party Dr. Timothy Harris said, "We have never encouraged and we will never encourage our supporters to engage in acts of vandalism or any form of unbecoming behaviour which will do discredit to the party and to the country."
