TT: Trini kidnapped in Venezuela?

A Trinidadian woman is believed to have been kidnapped in Venezuela, police sources have said.

The woman, identified as Melinda Williams, 25, had gone to the mainland for a short stay.

However, yesterday morning, schoolteacher Marlon Robinson, Williams' common-law husband, said he had received two telephone calls from Venezuela saying she had been kidnapped.

Police said that on the first occasion, a man called and told Robinson, a teacher at Morvant-Laventille Secondary Comprehensive, that Williams had been kidnapped and demanded a $20,000 ransom for her safe return.

The man called again, but Robinson told him he had no money.

The caller is reported to have told Robinson to "bring anything."

Robinson then made a report to the AKS, after which the calls were traced to Venezuela.
