TT: U.S. will extradite those involved in Piarco skull

The United States Department of Justice has assured that it will be willing to move against three American nationals implicated in the Piarco Airport scandal as soon as it receives a request for extradition by the Trinidad and Tobago Government.

Americans Ronald Birk, Eduardo Hillman and Raul Gutierrez are accused of conspiring with several former government officials to defraud the Government, the Airport's Authority and the National Insurance Property Development Company of $144,048,858.

Spokesperson from the Justice Department in Washington, DC, Bryan Sierra told the Express that the Justice Department will act when called upon.

He said: "Usually we do not comment on these matters but I will say to you that we have a treaty with Trinidad and Tobago and once the request is made we will be willing to co-operate to have the individuals extradited to face trial."

Sierra added; "I must, however, make it clear that in co-operating we will have to ensure that any American citizen is afforded due process which would entail a court order."
