U.S.: His hand shall be against every man....

Governor Ahmed Sani of Zamfara State [Nigeria], has ordered the demolition of all churches in the state, as he launched the second phase of his Sharia project yesterday.

Speaking at the launch in Gusau, the state capital, Governor Sani disclosed that time was ripe for full implementation of the programme as enshrined in the Holy Quran.

He added that his government would soon embark on demolition of all places of worship of unbelievers in the state, in line with Islamic injunction to fight them wherever they are found.
...
The governor’s stance on the demolition of all non-Islamic worship centres, however, runs contrary to the provisions of the country’s constitution, which states in Chapter 4, Section 38(1) that “every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance.

I am put in mind of that scene in Independence Day. The one in which the alien scorns, "peace? no peace." That's the same scene in which the president realizes what must be done.

Here's what, go take a look at Tears of the Sun; attend closely to the opening scenes and to the one with the soldiers in the church. Once you've finished, watch Independence Day. Both movies occasion deep reflection on our situation today. Finally, go see The Passion of the Christ, ignore all but the beginning and the end. Therein lies the message for the Church today. Jesus lives, the victory's won!

How shall we address the war that is about to come upon us? With prayer; with fear and trembling, not of man, but of God. For, we live our lives torn between the flesh and the spirit; trembling between should not and do, should and do not. And we pray that in Christ Jesus we find strength to persevere in spite of persecution, to believe even while enduring slavery, mutilation, and death so that our last words must be "come quickly, Lord Jesus."

We pray that in Christ Jesus the impulse of the flesh to hate and destroy is washed away by the Spirit of Christ's forgiveness and love. In the striving against sin, we have not yet resisted unto blood. Such a time of resistance unto blood is upon us. Oh God, with death before us, let us not set aside the Cross to choose the vain and foolish things of this world. For, to live is Christ and to die is gain; live or die, same thing.

This we do know, the Cross of Christ advances onward to victory. So we, in our present troubles, ought to plant the Cross firmly before us and, looking past our present tribulation, press on in faith to the glories that await in Christ. As He kept faith with His people Israel, He will keep faith with us who are grafted into Israel; He will fight for and defend us. This, then, is our promise; let us hold on to it in faith believing: the battle is the Lord's, and He will bring the victory home.
