UK Website aimed at Caribbean community
A TRINIDADIAN music teacher hopes a new website will help put Slough's Caribbean community on the map.
www.caribslough.co.uk was launched on Monday and will feature news on current events, education, jobs and even a problem page.
Founder Eros Mungal, of Bryant Avenue, said: "There used to be a West Indian People's Association but that is now defunct, so there was nothing really to tell us what was going on. What I want to do is create the demand and I hope it will bring the Caribbean community closer together."
Slough's Caribbean community was created during large-scale immigration to Britain during the 1950s and 60s.
But Mr Mungal feels it has been overshadowed by the larger South Asian population, adding: "We are a minority within a minority, and as a Trinidadian I am a minority within a minority within a minority! People tend to talk about South Asian issues but, hopefully, the website will create more and more interest in the Caribbean community."
