Bdos: Botwswana and Bim to collaborate

The Republic of Botswana is keen on working with Barbados, in an effort to promote the growth of various sectors in its economy and expand its economic base.

That is according to President of the Republic of Botswana, Festus G. Mogae, as he recently delivered opening remarks at the official talks with Prime Minister of Barbados, the Right Honourable Owen Arthur, who is on a six-day visit to that nation.

“You are no doubt aware that our economy continues to rely heavily on minerals, in particular diamonds. In this regard, we are doing all we can to promote the growth of other sectors and diversify our economic base. One such sector of critical importance is tourism,” he explained.

Pointing out that the tourism industry in Botswana comprises largely wildlife and wilderness based attractions, President Mogae suggested that with the “commendable strides” that Barbados has made in this sector, the two nations could explore avenues for increased collaboration in tourism through exchange programmes and places in training institutions.
