Ja: School rage costly

VIOLENCE IN schools which results in injuries to students, is reportedly costing the Government some $20 million annually.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health's surveillance unit, four per cent of all injuries treated in the island's hospitals, are students.

"Eighty-seven per cent of the injuries were from fights," said Dr. Elizabeth Ward, director of epidemiology at the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Ward told The Gleaner in an interview that last year 433 cases of injuries involving students were dealt with at hospitals.
