Gya: Guyana and St. Kitts to host part of the Cricket World Cup 2007

The Cricket World Cup 2007 in the West Indies is to remain true to its name.

The eight hosting venues, chosen by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and announced at a media conference here yesterday beamed live back to the Caribbean through radio and television, are all West Indian.

The only two extra-regional bids among the 12 submitted, from Broward County in the US state of Florida and from Bermuda, were unsuccessful.

St Kitts, which has never hosted a one-day international, earned inclusion through its plans to boost Warner Park in Basseterre from a capacity of 4,000 to 13,000 with temporary seating.

The only disappointed West Indian territory was St Vincent and the Grenadines.
