U.S. - Slothful We're Not!


For a change, Spengler, the inscrutable sage of the Asia Times, recognizes the true character of America, and and gives praise for our positive characteristics. His words don't drown out the critical voices, but they are welcome.

Empires are slothful because they encourage citizens to live off the sweat of other men's brows. In truth, Americans frown on the able-bodied that live that refuse to earn their bread. Although many wish to be wealthy, Americans consider inherited wealth to be somewhat decadent. Wealth is seen as acceptable when earned.

Hard-working Americans will make it in the world precisely because they are willing to do just that. Those that condemn America should consider the spirit of Americans that created a mighty industrial society from a wilderness inhabited by stoneage tribes and wild animals in the space of less than 300 hundred years. A pat on the back is nice, but vigilance is necessary against those that would wrest it from our hands and live slothfully on our labor.
