Gda: Need for prison reform in OECS

A regional human rights lawyer, Wendy Singh has suggested that there is need to undertake a complete overhaul of the Prison systems across the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

True, jail wasn't made to ripen figs, but jails can become way too comfortable, as the U.S. has discovered. I'm all for prison reforms as long as they don't result in prisoners being being coddled and the cat o' nine tails isn't jettisoned. They have rights which ought to be protected, but jail ought to be about punishment and preparation to re-enter and lawfully inhabit society. Too often, under the guise of rehabilitation, jail is turned into an extended vacation at the taxpayer's expense.
