Bmda: Power, politics and race exploitation

For example, over the decades the UBP has presented itself as a party of diversity, equality and unity. But let’s deal with the political reality that the electorate is roughly 65 per cent black to 35 per cent white. Even if the UBP had 100 per cent of the white vote, they could not win an election. Given this, the party has no choice but to try to attract black voters. Their key tactic for manipulating black voters has been to run black candidates and — some would argue — place black leaders at the forefront of the party.

But exactly how sincere has the UBP been when it comes to equality? Four years ago, arguably at the height of his tumultuous exile, UBP MP Trevor Moniz stated, “Let’s be frank, the UBP has always represented vested interests, the white Bermuda establishment. But also within that group you had people from other segments of the community. And, for many years it worked well.”

Sounds like they're following the Democrat blueprint. It's all about power.
