T&T: The Sacred and the Profane

I'm a big fan of Peter Minshall's and Peter Samuel's. If you've never seen their King of Carnival costumes, man oh man, you've missed a treat. Here's half a pix of one of the best costumes, The Sacred and the Profane. On the one side, unutterable beauty; on the other side, unutterable ugliness. It's brilliant stuff! I wish that Peter Samuel would post a website with pictures from his King of Carnival costumes. For sheer brilliance of design; sheer presentation and artistic portrayal, nobody beats Minshall and Samuel. Both men have rightly recognized that mas is theatre. The play's the thing.

“For me, playing king has never been about winning titles or money,” disclosed Samuel Jnr, “ but being given that stage to perform on. I am an artiste; I am a performer, and to me it was never important as to where the judges were located, or whether they were there at all. All I was interested in was putting on a show for the audience.
