U.S.: Terror threat from the south
Haaretz Daily notes this:
Muslim terror groups, including Hamas and Hezbollah, have recently stepped up their efforts to consolidate their power in distant areas of Latin America, particularly in the triangle of borders of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, say Israeli and American security sources.
The Brazilian judiciary -- which believes that the Dept. of Homeland Security of the U.S. has a constitutional responsibility to prize Brazilian tourists visiting the U.S. over and above the everyday American's need for security from terrorism -- has been very helpful to the U.S. in terms of checking the flow of terrorists from Arab Mid-East nations. This is especially the case since Brazil got attacked by Islamic jihadists recently:
Tourists Are Pawns in Brazil-U.S. Security Spat - n Jan. 1, Brazil began requiring that arriving American citizens be photographed and fingerprinted, in procedures similar to being booked at a police station. The actions, ordered in retaliation for comparable new security measures in the United States, have complicated the process of entering the country and have become a sore point in relations between the two countries. customs and immigration area because the Federal Police have shown unusual zeal in enforcing the procedures.
These two facts delineate the point that, contrary to the view, espoused in the Trinidad Express, this would be a very poor time to normalize relations with Cuba. Apart from the capitalist U.S. not wishing to breathe new life into the Cuban communist dictatorship, Castro would most likely have no compunction in providing Cuban documentation to allow jihadists to enter the U.S. as Cuban citizens. Why take that risk? If the Brazilians and other South Americans, along with a significant portion of the world, regard the U.S. as a bigger threat than Mid-East jihadists, then bad cess to 'em. How long before that statue of Christ in Sao Paulo (?) is blown up? Let South America not move against the jihadists in their midst, and let the jihadists launch an attack against the U.S. from a South American base. If the Democrats are in power, South American countries will get subpoenas that they can disregard without fear. If George W. Bush is in power, then by God, he will descend on them like a very Jove, in thunder and in lightning, and the jihadists destruction he will compel. Then the Express editorial staff can squawk all they want about the U.S.'s dismissive attitude to the rest of the world.
America has to exercise due diligence because these jihadist groups are positioning themselves for the 2004 American presidential elections in the hope that President Bush loses; if he does, then they are free to advance their agenda without fear of any restraint. Al Qaeda will return to full strength as the point of the Islamic sword raised against the West. The mad mullahs of Iran are hoping for this (see this also), and John Kerry and the Democrats have signaled that it will be so. For angels waiting in the wings, see al-Zarqawi, Nisrallah of Hizb'allah, and Yasser Arafat, all of whom are dreaming of an explosive terroristic Ramadan offensive against the U.S. should Bush be defeated. Indeed, sleeper cells of Al-Qaeda are already positioned in 40 states in the U.S.
Happily, for the sake of the U.S. itself and the rest of the world, except the editorial staff of the Express and many newspapers, many of the faux intelligentsia, litterati, and glitterati, Bush will not lose the election. When he is re-elected, then expect a lot of pins to fall in the Mid-East because from Teheran to Kenya, Asia and the Pacific, South America to Canada, the jihadists know that they will be in the gunsights of the U.S. military. If Osama's boy Zarqawi is bawling now (for the whole story see here.), honey, he ain't seen nothin' yet.
In the meantime, if Brazil and others don't like that the U.S. is fingerprinting visitors, well, to hell with them. September 11 did not happen on their soil. They are not the ones who yet live under a diurnal dirty-bomb or biological warfare threat of terrorism. When the jihadists start blowing up bombs in South American or European, or whatever cities -- they invariably will because their ideology will not permit Christianity and Western Civilization to stand -- lest we delude ourselves, this is a war against Judaism, Christianity and all Western Civilization -- don't call us, we'll call you.
