St. Kts: Customs pig pen

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - Customs officers have expressed their disgust at what they called the "deplorable conditions' of their offices at the customs cargo shed.

The customs air cargo shed at the Robert L. Bradshaw (RLB) International airport was built in 1963 and officers are complaining that the facilities have undergone considerable wear and tear and the infrastructure needs renovating.

A number of customs officers relayed their grievances to the SUN but preferred to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals.

"The conditions at the air cargo shed are very much deplorable. We have infrastructure that is outdated, the windows are not working properly; they cannot open, dust keeps coming in all the time and there's no way for it to escape," one officer said.
