T&T: Spencer Abraham to T&T -- mwuh! who loves ya, baby!

UNITED STATES Secretary of Energy, Spencer Abraham has expressed continued confidence in Trinidad and Tobago as a market supplier to the US.

His comments yesterday came at a time when several countries in the region are looking to Trinidad, as well as nearby Venezuela for continued supplies of oil, natural gas and petroleum products.
...
Both Jamaica and the Bahamas, already importers of fuel from Trinidad, have expressed an interest in deepening supply contracts with this country. Guyana has also said they would like to look at importing more fuel to possibly increase its electricity supply.

Abraham said yesterday the US was very confident in Trinidad as a supplier of gas. He again described Trinidad as a role model for other countries interested in developing oil and gas resources.

During the conference which ended yesterday, Energy Ministers agreed on the need for more cooperation amongst countries to increase supplies of oil and gas especially to energy poor territories.

Some of the problems listed included taxation issues, bureaucratic red tape, incentives for private investors and the development of the energy sector to include poorer members of society.

Williams said the conference was topical especially in light of current high oil prices.
