Atg: Denied peace with God
A man, who was found inside a church on Fort Road on Labour Day after allegedly seeking to put things right with God, has been hauled before the court on a charge of larceny.
James Harris is accused of stealing a coffee pot and other items valued at $550 from the church.
Acting Chief Magistrate Maureen Hyman-Payne remanded Harris in custody for a week.
His trial comes up on 21 July since he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Harris is however, charging he was at Fort James celebrating his 45th birthday and having reviewed his life promised to stop smoking.
Harris told the court he begged a lift to the church then entered the building through a window, which was ajar.
"I wanted to make a resolution. I am not going into any church to steal. It would be impossible," he said.
The defendant said the police arrived and met him inside the building and did not allow him an opportunity to make a resolution at the altar.
