BVI: Hong Kong calling

Chief Minister Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Finance the Hon. Ronnie Skelton and a delegation of over 30 members of the private sector, representing the local financial services industry, met with business leaders from Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore and from across the Asia-Pacific region.

With over 400 high-ranking business leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region in attendance, the aim was to stress the shared history of Hong Kong and the BVI as island Territories and offer a vision for advancing and deepening the relationship with mutual growth based on open trade and increased commerce.

The Hong Kong business community welcomed the excellent presentation  which Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Financial Services Commission Mr. Robert Mathavious made, updating the them on regulatory changes in the jurisdiction.

The Chief Minister said the financial services industry continues to be a source of opportunity, economic growth and national pride for the people of the BVI, adding, “No market is more important in terms of our long-term success than Hong Kong and the entire Asia-Pacific economic region.”
