Cçao: Hold on a minute!
ARUBA – The SER advises not to introduce a minimum hourly rate for all branches within the current labour market relations. Due to the different lengths of the working week for the different branches, this would lead to far-reaching consequences for about 60 percent of the working population, and so for the economy as an entity.
Aruba has e minimum monthly pay since 1972. This guaranteed a subsistence level for the working population. There are two kinds of minimum wages, namely for domestic- and non-domestic personnel. Because different amounts of hours are being worked in several branches, there are discrepancies between the minimum hourly pays in the different sectors. At first sight, this looks like social injustice. This is the reason why Minister Ramon Lee had asked the SER for advice on this problem.
