TT: The ideology of peace

INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES have intensified their surveillance of not only the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen but of a second radical Muslim organisation based in Cunupia in the face of several death threats against leading members of the government and the Judiciary.

The National Security Council, chaired by Prime Minister Patrick Manning, convened behind closed doors at Whitehall yesterday, in an emergency session, for over two-and-a-half hours, discussing the new threats which include a plot to kill President George Maxwell Richards, Chief Justice Satnarine Sharma, Attorney General John Jeremie, Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls and himself.
...
The Express learned that apart from the Jamaat, intelligence agencies are focusing on the Darul Uloom Institute of Trinidad and Tobago, both organisations which have close ties with international fundamentalist groups.
...
Top intelligence sources said that the agencies were now assessing the threat and developing an appropriate response if necessary.

The Darul Uloom Institute, based at Rashaad Avenue, Mon Plasir Road, has been under surveillance since 2000 after information surfaced that speeches were being made at the school in support of the Palestinian struggle in the Middle East.

One Islamic cleric was questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigations as a result of that information, the Express learned.
What is it with Islam, anyway?
