TT: Muslim men stopped at roadblock

A convoy carrying men dressed in Muslim garb was stopped by police at a roadblock at Pleasance Road, John John, Laventille, on Friday night.

It consisted of two maxi taxis (one large, the other small) and several cars, including a Honda Civic. All the vehicles and their occupants were searched.

Police said the men, who live in Port-of-Spain, were returning home from prayers at a mosque at Munroe Road, Cunupia.

They said it was a routine exercise and no weapons or drugs were found during the search.

However, a member of the group was arrested when police discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Police said that after the searches, the men were allowed to continue to their destination.
