Gya: Manning taking care of Caricom neigbors

PRIME Minister Patrick Manning of Trinidad and Tobago is plugging for Guyana to be included in any expansion operations of that twin island republic's smelter plant.

Mr. Manning says Trinidad recently signed the agreement with ALCOR, the largest aluminum company in the world, and made it clear to ALCOR there must be some involvement by Guyana in any of its operation.

"...... ever before the ink was dry on the agreement, T&T began to discuss expansion of the smelter and made it clear to ALCOR that if there is indeed to be any expansion (of the smelter), T&T is determined to see it takes place with some involvement of Guyana, that is, the construction of an aluminum manufacturing facility in that country ..."

The T&T Prime Minister noted that the smelter would be established on the basis of aluminum from Jamaica and Suriname through CARICOM countries.

It was another of Mr. Manning's remarks at the formal opening of the Guyana Trade and Investment Exposition in Port-of-Spain.
Would Jamaica, Suriname, or Guyana do the same for TT?
