PR: Boxers look good in the ring

CAGUAS (AP) – Puerto Rican boxers debuted on Wednesday to great acclaim, as the Jose ‘Cheo’ Aponte International Amateur Boxing Tournament got under way in Caguas.

Carlos Velazquez, who will represent Puerto Rico in the upcoming Olympic games in Athens, debuted with a resounding victory against Dominican Marcos Jimenez by a decision of 29-8.

Velazquez was assisted in his corner by super light weight world champion Ivan Calderon.
