TT: Too many Sanchos and Djangos out there

FOUR men have been killed in nine days in what police believe is an all-out gang war for the control of turf, arms, work-gangs and women in the Nelson Street and Plaisance Terrace/John John area. The latest victim is Kurt Simon, 32, aka “Sio,” a noted drug-pusher who was shot dead yesterday morning while washing his car. According to reports, Simon was washing his car at a standpipe on Quarry Circular Road in Gonzales at around 10.30 am, when a car pulled up and a man jumped out and started shooting at him. Simon attempted to run, but collapsed a short distance away.

Residents found Simon’s body lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to his head and foot. The police contacted the DMO, who ordered the body removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre for an autopsy carded for today. When Newsday visited Simon’s Chocolate Alley, Gonzales home, neighbours described him as a shadowy figure with a criminal character. Nine hours before Simon was shot, at around 1.15 am, Ako Maloney, 26, was shot dead on Nelson Street after he was called from his apartment while he was lighting candles for his murdered friend Atiba Mcintyre. Mcintyre, a member of the John John gang, was killed on Sunday night during a shoot-out with Fagan Turman, a member of the Nelson Street gang. Turman died Monday morning.
