USVI: Kids using their brains
ST. CROIX - Local public and private school students will test their skills in algebra, probability, statistics and geometry during the next two weeks in the annual MathCounts competition.
Throughout the event, students from 18 schools territorywide square off in the educational competition. The St. Croix competition is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday at Elena Christian Junior High School; the St. Thomas-St. John District is set for 9 a.m. Feb. 26 at Palms Court Harborview Hotel.

MathCounts problems are based on a seventh-grade and eighth-grade curriculum, but sixth-graders are allowed to participate.
USVI kids sure seem to understand the importance of hard work and study.

"The schools' sixth-graders, along with the older participants from the other schools, have been working tediously to represent their respective schools to the best of their abilities," she said.
