Atg: Brits cut aid to Guyana

Guyana will face a reduction in funds received from the British government as it moves to devote 90 per cent of its aid funding to low income countries, TRADEWATCH, a publication of the Caribbean Export Development Agency reported yesterday.

TRADEWATCH said that Guyana has been classified as a middle-income developing country.

It said that Britain's reduced funding is due in part to its "pledge for reconstruction and humanitarian aid in Iraq and its commitment to increase the proportion of bilateral aid going to the world's poorest countries by 2006."
