Bdos: Stopping bird flu

IN an effort to prevent the global bird flu pandemic from entering Barbados and affecting the local poultry industry, there will be increased screening of people arriving at the air and seaports to stop illegal exotic birds from being smuggled into the country.

President of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS), James Paul, revealed this at a press conference yesterday. Paul said that a conference was convened in Belize by the Caribbean Poultry Association to develop a response to the threat. Since the conference, Paul said that the BAS was examining the situation in relation to bird flu and “the kind of measures that we anticipate need to be taken in order to protect the country from bird flu.”
