Cuba: Boldly go only where the state allows

HAVANA, Cuba, April 12 (Ernesto Roque Cintero / www.cubanet.org) - Local authorities have forbidden certain residents of the town of Amancio Rodríguez, in Cuba's eastern province of Las Tunas, from traveling to Havana.

Adelaida Paneque, one such resident, said authorities, including the National Police, have lists with the names of people who may not travel to the capital and watch for them at the transportation terminals.

"Not only that," said Paneque, "but on the highway, at several points, patrol cars stop the buses and search the passengers. In my case, they made me get off the bus because I was carrying some cheeses for my relatives in Havana, and fined 200 pesos."
