DR: Mejia guarantees no coup

President Hipolito Mejia and Haitian Prime Minister Gerard Latortue met last Friday at the Hotel Santo Domingo. Speaking at the end of the brief encounter, Latortue said that President Mejia had guaranteed that the DR would not be used to destabilize Haiti. He said the governors had discussed border security, diplomacy and joint projects to develop infrastructure. The new Haitian leader expressed to his Dominican counterpart recognition of their solidarity in the face of the problems in Haiti, especially concerning the governments of the US, France and Canada, as reported in Hoy newspaper. “I would like to render homage to President Mejia for his will at always defending the cause of the Haitian people,” he said. For his part, President Mejia said the DR is committed to help resolve problems in Haiti from a position of prudence, without involving itself in Haitian internal affairs. “I have always said we are a marriage without divorce,” said Mejia.
