Gya: East St. Muslim school raid

Police yesterday raided the ISA Islamic School in East Street and questioned officials there.

Neither the police nor school officials could be contacted yesterday on the objective of the raid.

However, a press release from the Guyana Islamic Trust, which operates the school, criticised the action taken by the police and expressed "shock and outrage".

The GIT also rejected the intimation that the ISA Islamic School is in any way associated with criminal activity and described the institution as a model one established and supported by the entire Muslim community.

"We deplore the misuse of a large contingent of heavily armed officers in carrying out this unwarranted and humiliating action without justification leading to great trauma to the staff, students and parents who were there for legitimate reasons," the release said.

According to the release, the police team cordoned off the institution's compound and proceeded to question several staff members including the principal.
Why would the police want to do that? Don't they know that Islam is an ideology of peace?
