PR: Throw the bums out!
SAN JUAN (AP)- A group of senators from the majority Popular Democratic Party (PPD) condemned the excessive tardiness during the opening of senate sessions and threatened to leave the chambers is sessions are not started on time.
Senate majority spokesman, Jose Luis Dalmau (PDP), in charge the senate activity calendar, admitted that the problem of tardiness and absenteeism has been discussed in recent meetings, but there is little that can be done to resolve the problem.
“Some bills on our calendar need to be debated and I have to count on the majority of senators to be present to reach quorum. The criticism directed at me is unfair because if I cannot make quorum I have no control,” stated Dalmau.
This electoral year, tardiness also interferes with district campaigning.
