USVI: Superfly

ST. THOMAS - District Judge Thomas Moore sentenced former V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources Officer Montclaire Guishard on Wednesday to just more than 19 years in prison for accepting a bribe to conceal a far-reaching drug-trafficking ring.

A very different Guishard - who at his November trial bragged that officers in other law enforcement agencies were jealous of his crime-fighting prowess - showed up to Wednesday's hearing. As he asked Moore for leniency, Guishard sobbed into his hands.

A District Court jury convicted Guishard in November of conspiring to possess narcotics, accepting a bribe, making false statements to federal agents and concealing a felony.
