Cuba: Pressure for so
HOLGUÍN, May 13 (Juan Carlos Garcell, APLO / www.cubanet) - The sudden and unexpected closing of the dollar stores this week and the prohibition on sales of all but food and personal hygiene products engendered uncertainty among the population, who responded by lining up outside the stores to buy what they could while they still could.
The stores that sell exclusively in dollars, known in Cuba as the "shoppings," were all under police custody as of Tuesday morning after the Monday evening government announcement.
People waiting in line typically said they were trying to buy soap, detergent, deodorant and food before they became unavailable and before prices went up.
