Atg: Caricom keeping a foot on Aristide's neck

"Bahamas Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell ... said that the delegation will also attempt to determine 'where we are at and whether what we have discussed with President Aristide makes sense or makes any difference.'
...
"We have a moral stake in this, we have an economic interest in it, we have a security interest in it and the government has the responsibility to seek the best way it can to protect the Bahamas and that is why we are engaged in the situation with Haiti."

Kudos to Caricom for recognizing that they can't afford the luxury of a destabilized Haiti in their midst in this rounds. Mitchell's frankness is quite refreshing; Caricom wants to know if Aristide is hearing what Haiti's neighbors are saying. That Caricom is investing so much time in Haiti may indicate that there is a chance for Haiti to get its house in order. If only Aristide will do what is right; one gets the impression that Caricom leaders have a hand on his marbles and will squeeze if he plays the fool.
