T&T: Seetahal on Donna Jacobs's "Kingmaker"

Dana Seetahal slaps back at Donna Jacobs's Ottawa Citizen's article on Trinidad life and politics. She declares, "These are serious indictments to accept of the established systems of a country without seeking any kind of response from those in the systems themselves or others who may not have any apparent biases."

Seetahal concludes, "If you want to read an article promoting the Jamaat and its past and present thuggery, read Jacobs’ “Kingmaker.” If you want to hear about the megalomania that Bakr suffers from, read it, or if you want a one-sided analysis of the social conditions in T&T.

"But if you wanted to read a real examination of Jamaat influences on this and past Governments as well as their impact on the country or to gain a true appreciation of T&T’s social conditions, forget it – dump Jacobs’ report."

Quite frankly, A. N. R. Robinson had it right. Abu Bakr should never have been allowed to surrender in 1990 after his attempted coup which, had it been successful, would have seen the imposition of shariah law in Trinidad. Acting President Clarke was dead wrong in cutting a deal with the terrorist, especially when the then Prime Minister, wounded and bleeding in the Red House, was insisting that the government not surrender to the thug, Bakr.
