Cay: Constitutional reform up for referendum

Members of both the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) and the opposition People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) have indicated that their recommendations for the Cayman Islands’ constitutional reform will become part of their election campaign manifestos.

Speaking with Cayman Net News last week, Leader of Government Business, the Hon McKeeva Bush said that the UDP would be releasing its manifesto in September. “We will be presenting a new and innovative Constitution for the people to consider and have an opportunity to vote on,” he said. “We’ll publish the Constitution and make it part and parcel of our manifesto.”

Mr Bush clarified what he meant by saying the people would have a chance to vote on the Constitution. “The best referendum is the general election,” he said....
